Sampdoria defender Maya Yoshida left a post-match interview to confront a group of Saudi Arabia fans who had allegedly discriminated against him.

There were tense scenes after Japan’s 1-0 defeat against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah last night.

Yoshida, a Sampdoria defender, left a post-match interview to come face to face with a group of Saudi Arabia fans.

A video that has gone viral on social media shows an upset Yoshida walk through a group of fans while others were laughing at him.

“There have been discriminatory gestures throughout the game,” Yoshida explained after the match.

“It’s hard to accept. It also happened in the last qualifying matches. It’s a disappointment”.

  1. Is that it? Opposition fans wind up player? Where is the headline. Home fans laugh at their own players constantly.

  2. Urban…. I was thinking the same, todays media really does like to make a lot of drama out of nothing.

  3. The player said there was racial discrimination against Japan during the game, which is not drama out of nothing. If that is the case, it is just as disgusting as what happened to Koulibaly recently. Yoshida seems like a decent character; he would not get that upset for no reason.

  4. Maybe there is more evidence JM but all we saw from the clip is a gang of idiots pointing and laughing – and the player getting upset.

  5. Did you miss this bit lads?

“There have been discriminatory gestures throughout the game,” Yoshida explained after the match.

Now can you imagine what those gestures may have been? Scum. Yoshida should have been let up there to break a few jaws.

  6. Do discriminatory gestures not be present in every game mostly by fans against their own players if they are playing poorly or the referee. If the NUFC takeover didn’t happen, this story would not even be covered.

  7. Yoshida is a level headed player and a testament of class for Sampdoria, for him to speak up means something did happen (it was also reported on Japanese news). There’s no place for this type of garbage from fans.
