Timothy Weah released a video saluting Juventus fans and used a phrase in Italian taught to him by his father, Milan legend George Weah.
The wide forward completed his transfer to Turin today from Lille at a cost of €10.3m, payable in two financial years, plus a maximum of €2.1m in additional bonuses.
Weah is truly a multinational figure, as he was born in New York and plays his international football for the United States, but also has French and Liberian citizenship.
“Hello to everyone, handsome and ugly,” was his first phrase in the video for Juventus social media.
It might not translate well, but this is a common greeting in Italy because it rhymes – belli e brutti – and was beloved by George Weah during his time at Milan.
George has moved on since then and is now the President of Liberia.
“I say this because that’s life, there’s beauty and there’s ugliness,” he said at Milan.
