Had VAR not intervened for encroachment, Romelu Lukaku and Marco Silvestri would’ve shattered personal records during InterUdinese this evening.

The game was tied at San Siro when the referee pointed to the spot following a VAR on-field review for the Walace foul on Denzel Dumfries.

Lukaku stepped up and initially saw his weak penalty parried by Silvestri, but it had to be taken again due to encroachment, allowing him to score at the second attempt.

Had the original decision stood, it would’ve been a landmark for both of these players.

Until that moment, Lukaku had successfully converted all 12 of his Serie A penalty kicks.

Also, goalkeeper Silvestri had never managed to save a Serie A spot-kick out of 21 that were on target.

However, because of that encroachment, the two runs continue for 13 out of 13 Lukaku penalties and 22 unparried by Silvestri.

  1. If that was a pen vs Inter, it would’ve never been retaken. Cleanly got his shot away before anyone is even within 3 meters. Ridiculous but not surprised.
