Violent clashes between celebrating Napoli supporters and Udinese ultras took place during a pitch invasion at the Dacia Arena moments after Napoli the final whistle had blown to confirm Napoli’s first Scudetto in over 30 years. 

As hundreds of Napoli supporters began to spill onto the pitch in celebration of winning the Serie A title, Dozens of Udinese ultras also made their way down from the stands, many of whom were armed with belts and sticks. 

Scuffles between the supporters ensued for several minutes, before police clad in riot gear intervened and eventually restored order on the playing field. 

Eight people were reported as injured during the incident. One individual was taken to hospital with a head injury and another suffered a fractured leg, although both have been confirmed as not being ‘serious’ injuries. 

Udinese ultras had sent a warning to Napoli supporters on the eve of the game, not to celebrate on “their” pitch in the result of victory for Luciano Spalletti’s side. 

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there had also been five injuries to Partenopei supporters back in Naples, two of which relating to gunshots in the Piazza Garibaldi area, whilst three others were hurt by the explosion of firecrackers.
