Francesco Totti has landed his first role since leaving Roma – a spoon-wielding saint on an Italian comedy show.
Totti made an acrimonious exit from Roma in June but has so far remained cryptic about his next move.
However, the 42-year-old will make his acting bow in the Fox series ‘Romolo + Giuly’ – a parody of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

In a snippet of the second season, Totti is seen playing the role of ‘San Pupone’ – a reference to his nickname as a player, which translates to ‘big baby’.
He is clutching a giant spoon because the Italian term for a chip in football, for example his iconic Panenka-style penalty at Euro 2000, is cucchiaio (spoon).
The iconic No 10 is no stranger to the world of showbiz, having already appeared on reality programmes and adverts in Italy.
The second season of ‘Romolo + Giuly’ debuts on September 16.
