Marcus Thuram reveals what advice his father Lilian gave him about coming to play in Serie A for Inter. ‘This is like coming home, my dream has become reality.’
The France international was born in Italy, as at the time his father Lilian was playing his football for Parma, before continuing his Serie A career at Juventus.
It always felt inevitable that Marcus would follow in his father’s footsteps in Italian football, especially as he already speaks Italian.
“I used to watch Serie A when I was a kid and I saw so many champions. Coming to Serie A for me is like coming home,” he told the official Inter website.
“The Italian league has changed a lot since my dad played. But he gave me a lot of advice as a father. Namely, to play with joy and to enjoy every moment because my dream has become reality.
“I hope I can score a lot of goals in this jersey and win as much as possible.”
Thuram admits he was inspired by the Brazilian Ronaldo, who had perhaps the best years of his career at Inter, and that helped influence his decision to join them rather than Milan or Paris Saint-Germain.
“It is a dream to wear the same jersey as him and play in the same stadium. I can’t imagine the emotion I will feel when I am in the stadium with all the fans.”
Although Thuram has played at San Siro against Inter for Borussia Monchengladbach, it was during the COVID-19 period when no supporters were allowed in the stands, so he can’t wait to experience a packed house.
“Last night I watched a few videos on YouTube to get a feel for what it’s like to play at San Siro. I tell the fans to wait for me because I’m coming.”
