Kevin Strootman announced his retirement this week and is back at the Stadio Olimpico to receive a tribute from Roma supporters.
The Dutch midfielder decided to hang up his boots at the age of 34, as he had been a free agent since the contract with Genoa ran down on June 30.
Although he played for numerous clubs, including Olympique Marseille, Cagliari, PSV Eindhoven, FC Utrecht and Sparta Rotterdam, he was most closely associated with Roma.
He spent five years at the Stadio Olimpico from 2013 to 2018, making 131 competitive appearances for the club with 13 goals and 19 assists.
So when he announced his retirement, Roma invited him to attend this evening’s Serie A showdown against Inter.
