Circa 15,000 celebrating fans were waiting at the Milan headquarters when the team bus finally arrived back and Zlatan Ibrahimovic stepped out holding the Serie A trophy aloft.

The Rossoneri won their final game of the season, 3-0 away to Sassuolo, and secured the Scudetto for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign.

The ceremony therefore took place at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia and it took several hours to drive back to Milan.

They arrived at Casa Milan at well past 00.30am local time, with Ibrahimovic sat in the front seat holding the Serie A trophy.

While 18,000 got tickets for the big match, another 15,000 gathered at Casa Milan to welcome the squad back.

Ibrahimovic got out on foot holding the trophy over his head for all to see.

Well past 1am, Ibra took the mic and shouted in more broken Italian than usual: “This would not have been possible without you. I tell you, Milano isn’t Milan. Italy is Milan! Forza Milan always!”
