Watch as Alessio Romagnoli returns to Rome ahead of his medical with Lazio, having left Milan as a free agent.

The centre-back landed at Fiumicino Airport this evening and immediately posed with the Biancocelesti jersey for reporters.

There was also a special video filmed for Lazio in which he declared: “Finally!”

He is set to undergo a medical tomorrow, having agreed personal terms with the club he has supported since childhood, despite the fact he came up through the Roma youth academy.

Romagnoli failed to sign a new contract at Milan and walked away as a free agent.

The defender was also linked with Juventus and Fulham, but Lazio were always the favourites due to his personal history.

It is believed to be a five-year contract worth €2.9m per season net plus performance-related bonuses.

  1. Sad to see him leave…one of few protagonist characters around Italian players, just hope Milan don’t regret his departure. I feel he’s been mistreated (though we fans don’t know the real truth).
    All the best Romagnoli.

    *Forza Milan*

  2. Alessio Romagnoli and Nicolo Casale incoming for Luiz Felipe and Patric – major upgrades. If Acerbi goes too that is a bit more of a loss.

Matteo Cancellieri as a highly promising youngster.

Need a GK desperately, but otherwise without have lost key players, Lazio look materially improved year on year.

  3. mixed feelings for Alessio, who has never had a bad word for Milan. Unfortunately, with the contract signed before Elliott, he earned more money than what he deserved. Milan easily could have offered what Lazio offered, but I think that Milan was not interested in keeping his services anymore. A sad departure because he was one of the fwe decent players in the darkest hours of the team. Forza Alessio, and good luck at Lazio!

  4. A model professional, never created issues when he was dropped while donning the armband. Most players would probably have their feelings and ego hurt. He also guided us through the banter era, clearly one of the better players during that period. It was probably somewhat fitting that he was justly rewarded with Serie-A title at last, and personally wish him all the very best to him. Clearly he is also no mercenary as he prefers joining his childhood team than move to a more lucrative deals elsewhere. Glad that his wishes come true in the end, and Lazio would be fortunate to have him.

  5. Now that’s player who deserves fully affection and respect of Milan‘s fanbase. Good luck, Alessio, in this new stage of your career.

  6. Glad we offloaded him. We nearly escaped a Zapata/Yepes situation. Remember guys Perez let club legends like Ramos, Raul, Guti, Casillas, Marcelo go just like that. And look at them 14 titles, true European royalty. Calcio is different I know but romance lasts only for people of a very special calibre like Totti, Maldini, Costacurta (under-rated), Del Piero etc. Romagnoli was good but not good enough to help Milan achieve the goals. Last season he barely featured and we did well in defence and it was evident that his presence on the field didn’t add much. The leadership came from other places. Good luck to him but not sad one bit, in fact glad to be honest.
