Fans of Roma and Feyenoord were involved in a ‘night of tension’ in the Italian capital in the lead-up to the Europa League quarter-final second leg, as Giallorossi ultras appeared to have chased the travelling Dutch supporters in the streets.

Feyenoord fans are prohibited from attending the European tie at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday after previous trouble among supporters in a previous European encounter dating back to 2015.

Despite their not being able to watch the game from the stands, entourages from the Netherlands have been arriving in Italy over the last few days, with some even meeting up with Napoli fans in Campania.

On Wednesday evening, the atmosphere in Rome became even more tense, as a group of around 30 regular Feyenoord spectators posted pictures and videos to social media while they drank at the Shamrock Pub in the area near the Colosseum according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Having not exactly kept a low profile, their presence in the city was made aware to Roma ultras, who didn’t take kindly to the unexpected arrival from the travelling Dutch party.

A group of around 200 Roma supporters took to the streets, some of whom were armed with sticks according to reports, and were said to be looking for the Feyenoord supporters.

Thankfully, police were able to disperse the situation before anybody was hurt and the Roma supporters can be seen fleeing from the scene in videos circulated online overnight.
