Watch Mateo Retegui find the net for the second time in as many caps for Italy, something that hadn’t been achieved in almost 55 years.

Born in Argentina and able to play for the Azzurri due to his ancestry, the Tigre hitman has made a stunning impact on international football.

He had already scored in the 2-1 defeat to England and has now opened the scoring against Malta in their second EURO 2024 qualifier.

The last player to score in both his first two competitive games for Italy, therefore excluding friendlies, was Pierino Prati in the European Qualifiers against Bulgaria on April 6 and 20, 1968.
