Italy international Mateo Retegui has begun his medical with Atalanta in Milan, ahead of his permanent transfer from Genoa to replace the injured Gianluca Scamaca at the Gewiss Stadium.

Atalanta and Genoa agreed the terms of a deal on Wednesday night. The Argentine-born Azzurri striker is set to join Gian Piero Gasperini’s side on a permanent transfer worth a total of €25m, including €3m in bonuses. He had joined Genoa from Argentine outfit Tigre in a deal reported to be worth €15m this time last year.

The 25-year-old is having his medical assessment at La Madonnina clinic nearby in the city of Milan, and once completed, he is expected to head over to Bergmo to complete the final formalities of his move.
