There was a curious moment during Sunday’s Serie A match between Empoli and Fiorentina, as referee Matteo Marchetti had to be substituted due to an injury.

The official pulled up with a calf strain during the second half at the Stadio Castellani.

He received treatment, but was unable to continue the match, so had to exchange places with fourth official Juan Luca Sacchi.

This took over seven minutes to complete, as they had to switch over the equipment to remain in contact with the VAR and the goal-line technology armband too.
