Milan coach Stefano Pioli reveals his mum was the first person he called after the Rossoneri won the Scudetto on Sunday: ‘I understand why she wasn’t at the stadium…’

Pioli has won the first Scudetto in his career and Milan’s 19th Serie A title in history. They won the title on Sunday after a 2-0 win over Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium.

The former Lazio and Bologna boss was asked by Milan TV who was the first person he called after the victory in Reggio Emilia.

“The first call was to my mum. It’s not as if I didn’t want her at the stadium, but she thought she’d better not come and I can understand why,” he said.

“Everyone else was at the stadium, family and friends. So I called my mum, it was the right thing to do.”

On Sunday night, Pioli dedicated Milan’s title win to his father who had died in 2019, a few weeks before he was appointed as Milan coach.

“Every game was hugely significant to our journey,” the coach continued.

“Of course, there were matches that could be considered more significant, especially games against our direct rivals, but even games that seemed easier on paper turned out to be complicated games to get results in.

“I think our success can be put down to the consistency of the team from start to finish. We never lost sight of our quality.”

  1. What a great character he is, Pioli is not only an excellent manager, but above all a man of honor. Hope we’ll stick with him for years to come.
