New Atalanta co-chairman Stephen Pagliuca saluted the fans ahead of the Europa League quarter-final with RB Leipzig, reaffirming his commitment despite an attempt to purchase Chelsea.

The first leg ended 1-1 in Germany, while the decider kicks off in Bergamo at 17.45 UK time (16.45 GMT).

This was also a special occasion, as it was the first time American investor Pagliuca had been at the Gewiss Stadium during a match since buying up 55 per cent of the club in February.

He joined the board of directors along with son Joseph Case, who was also present today, and Bain Capital Private Equity chiefs David Benjamin Gross-Loh and Luca Bassi.

Pagliuca went on a lap of honour to salute the fans alongside historic Atalanta patron Luca Percassi.

Only yesterday, American investor Pagliuca assured he would not scale down his involvement in Atalanta, even if he is successful in purchasing Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.
