Andre Onana insists he was cool as a cucumber during that final FC Porto siege in the Champions League. ‘Almost a goal doesn’t mean anything, right?’

The Nerazzurri won the first leg 1-0 with a late Romelu Lukaku goal and that proved decisive, as they held out for a 0-0 draw at the Estadio do Dragao.

It allowed them to qualify for the Champions League quarter-final, but during the seven minutes of stoppages, Denzel Dumfries made a goal-line clearance on Marcano, then Onana fingertipped a Mehdi Taremi header onto the upright and the Marko Grujic follow-up thumped the crossbar after the offside flag had gone up.

When Eleven Portugal asked him how he felt, Onana shrugged.

“I didn’t feel anything. Almost a goal doesn’t mean anything, right? I am happy with the result, we played a great match and knew it was going to be difficult, but we showed character.

“I don’t know if I had to make more saves in this leg or the game in Italy, but the important thing is that we qualified.”

Inter are in the Champions League final eight for the first time in 12 years, having already eliminated Barcelona in the group phase against the odds.
