New Milan signing Marco Pellegrino admits Sergio Ramos is his idol, but he’s working to ‘be like’ Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero.

The 21-year-old has completed a permanent transfer to San Siro from Argentinean side Platense.

“It’s a dream to be here. When I learned about the interest, I spoke to my family about it, we were excited and could not believe it. Today I am really happy to be here,” Pellegrino told Milan TV.

Pellegrino is not expected to become a regular starter straight away, but will first work with his new teammates to adapt to a new club and playing style.

However, he already has clear ideas about the defender he wants to be.

“My idol is Sergio Ramos and I am a big fan of El Cuti Romero, for me he’s a complete centre-back and I’m trying to be like him,” he said.

So, which are his best qualities?

“My speed, the aggression with which I mark, my ability to stay focused during matches and my desire to work hard,” he said.

“The game is very tactical and intense here with high-quality players and I hope to adapt quickly.”

Pellegrino was born in Argentina but is eligible to play for Italy as his grandfather comes from the Peninsula.

“I’m of Italian descent thanks to my grandfather,” the defender revealed.

“My mother’s father was born in Italy. He often speaks about Italy and he is also happy for me. I visited Italy a few years ago with my family and I hope to adapt quickly. I will count on the support of my family. They’re always with me and we’ll get to know the city of Milan together too.”
