Jose Mourinho landed a blow on his former employers at Premier League Tottenham Hotspur in the build-up to Roma’s Europa League final against Sevilla, laughing that the North London outfit sacked him before he was able to bring them silverware.

During his pre-match press conference before Wednesday night’s final at the Puskas Arena, Mourinho compared his current situation with Roma to his previous experience with Spurs, appearing grateful that the Giallorossi ‘gave him the chance’ to win a final.

Mourinho was let go by Tottenham just days before he was due to lead the team out at Wembley for the League Cup final against Manchester City in April 2021, which meant that the Special One left the club without winning a trophy, the first time that had happened since 2002.

Now with Roma, Mourinho is set to take part in his second European final in as many years and looks to add the sixth European title to his collection from what will be his sixth major final in UEFA competitions.

“In Roma, they didn’t sack me before the final in Tirana and in Tottenham, they sacked me before the final at Wembley,” Mourinho told the press on Tuesday night.

He continued: “Roma gave me the chance to win the final at Tirana and at Tottenham I had no chance.”
