Jose Mourinho said that the most challenging experience of his career was taking Roma to two consecutive European Finals. ‘That’s why they sacked me the third year.’

The coach was speaking at the Digital Wellbeing Summit in Saudi Arabia, which he can do after he was dismissed by the Giallorossi in January.

He was asked by the host which was the most challenging achievement of his career, reaching 100 points with Real Madrid in LaLiga or winning the Premier League at Chelsea.

However, he gave a very different answer, shrugging off those two highlights.

“The most challenging was Roma two European Finals. Look to history and you understand why. For 50 years they never did it, so it depends on the dimensions, depends on the conditions too,” said Mourinho.

“There are things that you do that are almost a normal consequence of the situation. The less conditions you have to succeed and the you do it, the more credit I feel, the more pride I feel about it.

“Roma was historically something impossible to do it and we did it twice in a row. That’s why they sacked me the third year,” he smiled.

Mou lifted the UEFA Conference League with a 1-0 victory over Feyenoord, then reached the Europa League Final, losing to Sevilla only on penalties.

  1. Senior Mourinho! I love your honesty and charisma, Roma had never played in any final for many years and you did it in a row!
