“I arrived in Naples in 2016, four years ago. I’ll never forget the impression I got from the city,” he said. “Napoli has this effect, it welcomes you, it hugs you and makes you feel at home. Like I have always felt.

“There have been times when I cried over the last four years. The pain when I was injured, the sadness when we were so close to the Scudetto the second year.

“The joy, after having scored the penalty in the Coppa Italia Final.

“For the whole time, even during the hardest moments. There has always bee one thing for certain: the warmth and the affection from the Neapolitans.

“You applauded me, you learned my name and you waited for me when I was injured. You criticised me when I made mistakes on the pitch. But you were always with me.

“Now, I leave, but I bring a piece of you with me in my luggage. From close and from far, I will always respect these colours and this city.

“I leave as I arrived, with a smile. Because I’m aware of what I gave and what the city gave me. A big hug to all of you. Take care.”
