Walter Mazzarri saw history repeating itself, because for the second time after 2012, he refused to attend the trophy ceremony after losing the Supercoppa with Napoli.

The coach was fuming throughout the 1-0 defeat to Inter and repeatedly vented his irritation with the decisions of referee Antonio Rapuano.

Mediaset pitch side reporters already noted that he reacted with this phrase to a challenge in midfield on Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.

“This is shocking, you cannot ignore that foul. Let’s go, let’s leave.”

He was even angrier when Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu needed three rough tackles before receiving a yellow card in the first half, Napoli arguing he had made enough fouls to warrant two bookings.

On the hour mark, Giovanni Simeone was sent off for two yellow cards and Mazzarri vented his anger on the bench.

“Shame on you! Shame! This is how you ruin a match!”

When Lautaro Martinez scored the winner for Inter at the 91st minute, Mazzarri simply stormed off down the tunnel and never re-emerged, even when his team received their silver medals.

His entire staff also boycotted the ceremony and this was by no means new behaviour for Mazzarri.

The last time he competed for the Supercoppa Italiana was in Beijing with Napoli against Juventus and that game was also overshadowed by some controversial refereeing decisions.

Mazzarri and the entire Napoli squad that time boycotted the ceremony, leaving Juve alone to lift the trophy and receive their medals.

At least on this occasion, the players chose to participate, even if their coach abandoned the event and refused to speak to the media.
