Mario Hermoso has landed in the Eternal City to undergo his medical with Roma, arriving as a free agent with Chris Smalling heading to Al-Fahya FC.

Reporters and fans greeted the defender at Fiumicino Airport.

The Spain international was still without a club after his contract with Atletico Madrid expired on June 30, so was allowed to sign for the Giallorossi beyond the transfer deadline.

He is expected to put pen to paper on a deal until June 2026 with an option to extend for one more season.

Hermoso turned 29 in June and can play both in central defence and in the left-back role.

His arrival allows Smalling to complete a transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Fahya FC, as their window is open until September 2.

The new buy will have to wait before meeting his new coach and teammates, because Roma are playing away to Juventus in Turin this evening.
