Jorginho converted a penalty kick to level the score in Chelsea-Manchester United, but the Red Devils had taken the lead following a defensive blunder from the Italy international.

Manchester United broke the deadlock after 50 minutes at Stamford Bridge thanks to a goal from Jadon Sancho, who made the most of a mistake by the former Napoli and Hellas Verona star.

Jorginho was alone in the middle of the park after a Chelsea corner kick but failed to bring the ball down, allowing Sancho to win the ball and go one-on-one with Edouard Mendy.

The Italy international had a chance to redeem himself 20 minutes later, converting a spot-kick earned by former Milan star Thiago Silva.

Jorginho has missed three penalty kicks in a row with Italy, including two in two games against Switzerland. However, he stepped up and scored the spot-kick for the Blues by sending David De Gea the wrong way.

Chelsea-Manchester United ended in a 1-1 draw.

Itโ€™s worth noticing that Jorginho once again changed his penalty technique, jumping just before kicking the ball.

Earlier in October, the 29-year-old converted two penalty kicks against Malmo without his iconic jump. He had missed the first penalty kick against Switzerland only a few days earlier, so he decided to change his technique.

He returned to old habits against Manchester United, but he may not take the next penalty kick for the Azzurri as Leonardo Bonucci could step up if Italy get a spot-kick in the World Cup play-offs in March.

  1. I only care about Jorginho in the context of the national team, so it is endlessly frustrating seeing this guy seemingly effortlessly score penalties for Chelsea while he bottles them all for Italy

  2. I’m with you Matt – it’s bloody frustrating for sure. Hopefully, Mancini will now relieve him of penalty taking duties and hand Bonucci the responsibility.

  3. As far as I know for their Clubs, the rigoristi we have are:

    1) Jorginho for Chelsea.

    2) Insigne for Napoli.
    .
    3) Pellegrini, i think is the first option for Roma. Open for correction.

    4) Berardi, for Sassuolo.

    5) If he comes on, Joao Pedro is the rigorista for Cagliari.

    – At Juve, Bonucci is #2 behind Dybala.

    – Never seem Berna take one for Juve but he did take 2 in shootouts for Italy.

Not sure about Belotti and Torino. He probably does.

  4. Veretout is Romaโ€™s penalty taker. And please stop talking about
Joรฃo Pedro as if heโ€™s actually going to play for Italy.

  5. We should not be calling up non Italians. He has absolutely no relation to Italy other than his wife. Enough with the Brazilians.
