Arsenal fans were thanking Italy international Jorginho – and a stroke of luck – for the goal to beat Aston Villa and keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

The Gunners were trailing 2-1 and got it back to 2-2 with Oleksandr Zinchenko, but continued to waste good scoring opportunities.

It had seemed to be another disappointing result in a recent series for a side that until the World Cup break had seemed unstoppable.

A January signing from rivals Chelsea, Jorginho let loose with a first-time strike from the edge of the D and it thumped the crossbar, ricocheted off the back of World Cup winning goalkeeper Dibu Martinez and into the net.

Gabriel Martinelli added a fourth in the final seconds of the 4-2 thriller.
