The outspoken Zlatan Ibrahimovic had his say on Antonio Conte’s departure from Tottenham on Sunday evening, warning that sometimes ‘it pays’ to be yourself.

The 41-year-old Swede is said to be a fond admirer of Conte and his work in the professional game and recently came to his defence when asked about the Italian’s situation in the run-up to his dismissal.

Ibrahimovic pointed out that everybody likes to work in their own way and ultimately Contte paid the price for staying true to his beliefs.

“Someone is himself, someone tries to be perfect. I believe you should be yourself even if sometimes you pay for it because that’s not what people want to hear. I prefer to be myself and express myself as I think and as I want,” the Swede told the Sky Sports cameras.

Ibrahimovic was speaking whilst away on international duty with Sweden, where he has been training individually after recurring fitness problems.

He is not involved with the international matchday squad who are currently taking on Azerbaijan in the Euro 2024 Group F qualifiers.
