Zlatan Ibrahimovic made history as the oldest ever player to score in Serie A, aged 41 years and 166 days, and curiously breaks a record that was also set by a Milan player against Udinese.

Alessandro ‘Billy’ Costacurta had the record of oldest ever Serie A player on target at the age of 41 years and 25 days.

He too was representing Milan in a game against Udinese, albeit a 3-2 home defeat at San Siro on May 19, 2007, and he too converted a penalty that day.

This evening, Ibrahimovic had at first seen the spot-kick saved by Marco Silvestri’s fingertips, but it had to be retaken due to Beto’s encroachment.

At the second time of asking, the Swede smashed it into the roof of the net to make history.

He was already the oldest ever outfield player in Serie A and was wearing the captain’s armband for the first time at the Dacia Arena too.
