Before scoring Milan’s equaliser, Alexis Saelemaekers was on the end of a very late lunge from Roger Ibanez that is sparking controversy, with calls for the Roma defender to be sent off.

The incident occurred at the 71st minute at the Stadio Olimpico, when the score was still 0-0.

Ibanez was shown the yellow card for the challenge, as although the VAR did take some time to evaluate it, ultimately decided against recommending an on-field review for a straight red.

Tammy Abraham went on to put Roma in front, before Saelemaekers scored an equaliser at the 97th minute.

“It was very late, coming in at some speed and with the studs showing, so Ibanez was very fortunate to avoid an on-field review and red card,” said DAZN refereeing pundit Luca Marelli.
