Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund scored against Lazio on Ademola Lookman’s assist, but he almost found the net with an astonishing burst of pace to run from his own penalty area.

The 20-year-old Dane has made a great impact on Serie A this season and took centre-stage at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome this evening.

He doubled La Dea’s lead when getting in behind Patric to slide onto the Lookman roll across the six-yard box.

However, earlier in the game, Hojlund had everyone on their feet with his remarkable run from his own penalty area, making the Lazio defenders look as if they were wading through treacle in comparison.

Only a fine Ivan Provedel save prevented him scoring that chance, but it got social media buzzing, including some asking if they had genuinely seen that or if they’d been hallucinating.

Perhaps the best response was noting he looked like an Anime character breaking through at hyperspeed.
