Former Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen has made his return to the football field 259 days after his heart stopped, as he made his debut for Brentford today.
The 29-year-old was playing for Denmark against Finland on June 12, 2021 during the Euro 2020 tournament when he suffered sudden cardiac arrest and had to be revived on the pitch by medical staff using a defibrillator.
He made a full recovery and had an implanted defibrillator put into his chest, which allows him to live a normal life, but under Italian rules bars him from participating in any sporting activity, including training.
Inter therefore had to terminate his contract by mutual consent and Eriksen signed for Premier League outfit Brentford.
He came on as a substitute this afternoon against Newcastle United, marking his return to football under a year on from potential tragedy.
