Paulo Dybala and Chris Smalling were both involved in training with the rest of the Roma first team squad on Wednesday afternoon as Jose Mourinho prepares his side ahead of the Europa League semi-final second leg against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night.
La Joya has been struggling with an ankle problem in recent weeks and had trained individually in the early stages of the week.
Despite the encouraging signs from Wednesday’s session, Mourinho won’t risk playing Dybala for any more than half an hour on Thursday, according to Sky Sport Italia.
Former Manchester United defender Smalling has not featured for the Giallorossi since the 4-1 win over Feyenoord in the second leg of the quarter-final in April, despite being named on the bench on a handful of occasions since then.
Stephan El Shaarawy also took part in group training for the first time since the injury he picked up a couple of weeks ago.
Roma will look to make good on their 1-0 advantage when they travel to the BayArena to take on Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side on Thursday night, with a place in the Europa League final at stake.
