Denmark and Belgium stopped playing after ten minutes of their Euro 2020 game to pay tribute to Christian Eriksen.

The Inter midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch last Saturday during Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash against Finland.

He was given urgent CPR on the pitch and was then taken to the hospital where he underwent further medical examinations.

Denmark returned to the pitch today for the first time since. They are facing Belgium in the second game of their group stage at Copenhagen’s Parken, which is where the Eriksen incident occurred last week.

A giant Eriksen jersey was unveiled on the pitch before the kick-off and the game was stopped after 10 minutes with the players and the crowd that applauded the former Tottenham star.

The 29-year-old will have an ICD, a heart starter, a “necessary device after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances,” Denmark announced.

Eriksen’s Inter teammate Romelu Lukaku looked emotional during the minute applause for Eriksen.

The former Manchester United striker dedicated Belgium’s victory to his Inter teammate last week and has recently claimed he wants to visit his friend as soon as possible.
