A re-surfaced clip of Alessandro Del Piero gliding past former Manchester City defender and regular Champions League pundit Micah Richards proved popular on television and social media last night.
Del Piero appeared as a guest on CBS Sports’ American coverage of the Champions League alongside regular panellists Richards, Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry.
The pre-match build-up was briefly interrupted by a clip of Del Piero and former right back Richards lining up against each other in a game between Juvenuts and Man City in the Champions League group stage in 2010.
Del Piero and Richards were the respective captains on the night, although the pre-match handshake was about as close as Richards got to Del Piero all night on that occasion.
The clip put out last night, which has since been shared thousands of times on social media, showed Del Piero getting the better of Richards twice over, before firing a pinpoint cross in to Niccolo Giannetti to tuck home from six yards out.
The clip left the pundits in hysterics as Richards was left defenceless of his attempt to keep Del Piero quiet.
