Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt went from hero to villain for the Netherlands, as he followed a great block with a red card for handball.
The incidents occurred either side of half-time in Budapest during the Euro 2020 Round of 16.
First De Ligt made a decisive block to prevent Verona midfielder Antonin Barak from scoring a certain goal.
However, after the restart the Bianconeri defender stumbled under pressure from Patrik Schick and fell onto the ball, using his hand to bat it backwards on the edge of the penalty area.
At first, the referee had awarded a yellow card, but after seeing it again on the VAR monitor, inevitably changed his decision to a straight red for preventing a clear scoring opportunity.
It’s hardly new for De Ligt, as in the first few months of his Juventus career, he repeatedly gave away penalties for handball.
