Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt admits Weston McKennie is his funniest teammate in Turin and explains why he respected Cristiano Ronaldo and Gigi Buffon too much.
The Dutch centre-back joined the Old Lady in 2019 from Ajax and spent two seasons with the legendary striker and goalkeeper.
“At the beginning, it was quite hard. I am a very respectful guy, sometimes I respected these guys too much,” he told CBS Sport.
“In the end we are all in the same time, you have to challenge each other to become better. But at some point, you learn from other players and become good colleagues and friends.”
What has surprised him about Serie A?
“Every game feels so hard. For the champions of Holland, if you play against No.15 in the table and win 2-0, it was disappointing,” he said.
“In the first season [at Juventus], it was surprising to see that everyone was so happy after a 1-0 win against the last in the table.
“Funniest guy? I think McKennie, Wes…He is so funny to see, he has made a big improvement in his game with us. He is such a funny guy.”
🗣 @IFTVMarco: "Who's the funniest guy on the team?"
🗣 @mdeligt_04: "McKennie… He lives in a completely different world than us. It's so funny to see."Matthijs de Ligt didn't even hesitate 😂

Beautiful stadium. Too bad there aren’t many more like that in Italy.
