Brazil international David Neres has landed on Italian soil to complete his €28m transfer from Benfica to Napoli.

The 27-year-old plays primarily on the right wing, but can also work on the left or in a deeper trequartista role.

He took a flight from Portugal this afternoon and arrived at Fiumicino Airport in Rome.

This is because he is expected to undergo his medical tests at the Villa Stuart clinic in the Eternal City, before signing the contract at the office of President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Neres has eight senior caps for Brazil, scoring one goal, and was purchased by Benfica from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2022 for €15.3m.

They are practically doubling that investment, as between add-ons and fee, Napoli will pay circa €28m to sign him.

He’ll have to wait before meeting coach Antonio Conte and his new teammates, because they are currently in Verona for their opening Serie A match of the season at the Stadio Bentegodi.
