Former Serie A stars Paolo Di Canio and Alessandro Costacurta were involved in a passionate debate on Sadio Mané’s handball in the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Inter on Tuesday.
The Nerazzurri were denied a penalty kick in the opening 10 minutes despite an on-field review following a clear handball from the ex-Liverpool ace.
Di Canio and Costacurta, two former Milan players, had different views on the incident and discussed it on Sky Sport Italia.
“If he had protected his body, it wouldn’t have been a penalty, so I don’t see why this should have been a penalty in this case,” said the ex-Milan defender mimicking, Mané’s movement.
“To me, this was a penalty kick twice. Mané had partially turned his body and the hands were not adherent to the body,” argued Di Canio.
“He wouldn’t have gotten the ball in his face, but it would have hit him on the side. To me, this is a penalty as big as a house.”
“He didn’t make his body bigger,” insisted Costacurta in front of an amused Fabio Capello, but Di Canio didn’t share his view: “His arms are separated from the body.”
A farce! If that is not a penalty what is mate?
get over it, u lost 2-0
