Inter star Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoring for Türkiye in their final group stage match at EURO 2024 against Czechia, who had been reduced to 10 men after Fiorentina’s Antonin Barak was sent off just 20 minutes in.
Calhanoglu, who had been subject of transfer interest from Bayern Munich last week, finally buried his chance after a series of mis-placed Turkish shots in the build-up.
Juventus’s Kenan Yildiz had two attempts smothered, Ismail Yuksek tried again from the edge of the area, before he decided to slip the Inter man in on the left of the area.
The recent Scudetto winner slammed home with his first touch to give Türkiye the lead, which will guarantee their place in the knockout rounds should the scores remain the same by full-time.
A point will be enough for Türkiye to confirm their spot in second place in Group F.
