Giacomo Bonaventura has become the oldest ever player to score his debut goal for Italy at the age of 34 years, one month and 22 days.

It beats the previous record set by Sassuolo striker Ciccio Caputo during Italy 6-0 Moldova in October 2020, when he was 33 years and 62 days old.

The Fiorentina midfielder curled a stunner into the far top corner with his right boot from just inside the penalty area in this evening’s EURO 2024 qualifier at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari.

This was Bonaventura’s first Italy appearance in three years and his 15th senior cap for the Nazionale.
