Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis claims Piotr Zielinski’s agent ‘convinced him’ to leave for Inter and gives a friendly warning to Beppe Marotta.

The midfielder is only tied to the Partenopei until June 30 and there are already multiple reports that he has lined up a free transfer to Inter at the end of the season.

De Laurentiis appeared to acknowledge this in his comments to the press outside the Lega Serie A meeting this afternoon.

“Piotr is a lovely guy and a very good player. He has been at Napoli for eight years and I think such long affairs tend to come to a natural close,” De Laurentiis told reporters.

“If he wants to stay with us, we are here with open arms, but if he wants to leave because he has an agent who can smell money, who has imagined dipping a nice biscuit in a latte…

“He will have convinced the lad, his wife and family to leave Napoli. I can say one thing: Zielinski is getting a higher salary from me than he would get at Inter.”

The Napoli President also aimed a sideswipe at Inter CEO Marotta about the Zielinski situation.

“I told Marotta he is not behaving well, but in a jokey manner, because he immediately hit back with ‘it’s not true, it’s not true!’ It became something of a gag.”
