Athletico Paranaense midfielder Arturo Vidal was unimpressed with Milan’s Champions League opener against Newcastle United, claiming that ‘those idiots left me hurt’.

The 36-year-old Chilean, who spent seven years of his career in Serie A with Juventus and Inter, was not alone with his frustration with the match. The result concerned many Rossoneri supporters, who felt that the home game with the Magpies was their simplest game in a group containing Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

Milan also lost the Derby della Madonnina in dramatic fashion the match prior, falling 5-1 to Inter in their fifth consecutive derby defeat.

Speaking on the Twitch.tv channel Red Gol via Calciomercato.com, Vidal gave his thoughts on the first round of Champions League matches, not hiding his true thoughts.

“I saw the worst match in the history of the Champions League, the one between Milan and Newcastle. Not like the one between Porto and Shakhtar, which was great.

“City, on the other hand, were boring, as always. In the one between PSG and Borussia Dortmund, I only liked it in the second half but in the first I fell asleep. But those idiots from Milan with Newcastle left me hurt.

“They’re lucky because they only know how to run, otherwise they wouldn’t be there. I don’t understand Newcastle, they finished fourth in the league, but they don’t do anything, it’s disgusting.

“They have to risk their lives, if it’s their first match, show something more, they made me mad as hell.”

Napoli were the only Italian team to taste victory in the Champions League this week, beating Braga, whilst Lazio and Inter drew Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad respectively.
