Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Everton has caused debate in the Premier League as it saw Italy international Guglielmo Vicario concede a goal from a corner kick, like in the previous FA Cup game against Manchester City, but most Spurs fans believe the ex-Empoli keeper was fouled.

Tottenham were held to a 2-2 draw by Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday and Vicario made headlines for the wrong reasons.

Jack Harrison scored an equaliser for Everton from a corner kick at minute 30, but it caused controversy as Tottenham players and fans appealed for a foul on Vicario.

Spurs didn’t openly criticise the official, but coach Ange Postecoglou said after the game: “It just seems to be in general referees are reluctant to call these now and leave to VAR. At the moment, any contact in the box referees seem reluctant to call.”

Vicario had conceded a similar goal in an FA Cup defeat against Manchester City in the previous week, but the Spurs boss didn’t see an issue with the Italian keeper: “It is disappointing to concede any goal. There were about 30 set-pieces. It is stuff you have to deal with,” he said as quoted by the Daily Mail.

Most Tottenham fans feel Vicario should not be blamed for Everton’s first goal, as evidenced by comments on the goalkeeper’s Instagram post after the game.

Most supporters from North London backed the 27-year-old writing: “We are with you” and “Keep your head up.”

However, others feel the ex-Empoli keeper should be stronger inside the box. One fan wrote: “Don’t allow the defenders to bully you,” while another said: “We love you but don’t let players come to your front during set pieces.”

Vicario has kept six clean sheets in 25 games across all competitions this season, conceding 36 goals.
