Verratti withdraws from Italy camp ahead of Turkey friendly

Marco Verratti left Italy’s training camp in Coverciano this morning, ruling him out of the upcoming friendly against Turkey.

The 29-year-old Italian midfielder played the full 90 minutes of the Azzurri’s disastrous 1-0 defeat to North Macedonia on Thursday, watching on helplessly as his side fell to a last minute winner. Italy are now scheduled to play a friendly against Turkey next week on Tuesday, a fairly meaningless match that neither team are particularly excited for.

As highlighted by TuttoMercatoWeb, Verratti withdrew from the Italy training camp today and left Coverciano, returning to Paris. He will not be available for the friendly against Turkey. It’s currently unclear why he left, although it’s likely to be injury-related.

The Italian midfielder has missed 10 games across all competitions this season for Paris Saint-Germain due to injury, suffering from knee and hip issues. He is known for his frail physical condition, a real shame considering his ability to dictate games from the midfield.
