Marco Verratti left Italy’s training camp in Coverciano this morning, ruling him out of the upcoming friendly against Turkey.

The 29-year-old Italian midfielder played the full 90 minutes of the Azzurri’s disastrous 1-0 defeat to North Macedonia on Thursday, watching on helplessly as his side fell to a last minute winner. Italy are now scheduled to play a friendly against Turkey next week on Tuesday, a fairly meaningless match that neither team are particularly excited for.

As highlighted by TuttoMercatoWeb, Verratti withdrew from the Italy training camp today and left Coverciano, returning to Paris. He will not be available for the friendly against Turkey. It’s currently unclear why he left, although it’s likely to be injury-related.

The Italian midfielder has missed 10 games across all competitions this season for Paris Saint-Germain due to injury, suffering from knee and hip issues. He is known for his frail physical condition, a real shame considering his ability to dictate games from the midfield.

  1. It’ll only be useless if Mancini fields the same old team.

It could be very useful in giving some fresh faces a chance, trying a different system or two, and also seeing who has the mental strength to put the immense disappointment aside – for 90 minutes – and take the game by the scruff of the neck and stake a claim.

  2. I agree that this game is pointless and if any players get injured that would be
a disaster for the up and coming league games.
This must be to do with money again.

  3. @Reggio

I like how you’ve taken it upon yourself to be the leader and speak for the others, and by extension insult their own autonomy.

Look, I can see where everyone is coming from here, but the fact is this match is still going ahead, so why not make the most of it? Especially as Mancini has repeatedly said how he has so little preparation time with the players and hasn’t got many fixtures to experiment with.
