Verratti: ‘Winning with Italy was the greatest feeling’

Paris Saint-Germain and Italy star Marco Verratti said ‘winning with the national team’ was the ‘greatest feeling I have experienced in football’.

The midfielder was an important member of Roberto Mancini’s squad at the European Championship this summer, helping the Azzurri go all the way in the competition.

Italy beat England on penalties in the Final at Wembley and lifted EURO 2020, and Verratti, who has picked up 27 domestic titles with PSG, explained it’s the best moment of his career so far.

“It’s the greatest emotion I have experienced in football,” Verratti told France Info. “Winning with the national team is so different.

“You play with your friends, in front of your family, for your country. Juve, Inter, Milan, all of this no longer exists.

“From the children to the 80-year-old grandmothers, they were all there. And it’s a great thrill to win the European Championship against the British, at their home, and then return to Rome, to find all that joy.

“I keep everything inside of me.”
