Marco Verratti was left furious after Paris Saint-Germain’s frustrating Champions League draw against Benfica yesterday, a match where Gianluigi Donnarumma proved almost unbeatable.

The Parisians took an early lead at the Estádio da Luz last night thanks to a 22-minute strike from Lionel Messi, but things took a turn for the worse just before half time, when Danilo Pereira accidentally poked the ball past Donnarumma following a whipped cross from Enzo Fernández.

Despite PSG’s dominance in the second half, they couldn’t edge out a winner, leaving them frustrated as they only picked up a point in Portugal.

Verratti in particular was furious after the match, believing that Fernández should’ve been sent off for a dangerous challenge on him last in the first half, a foul that only saw him pick up a booking.

Speaking to Canal+ after the final whistle, the Italian midfielder said: “I spoke with the referee, I don’t understand anything about football anymore. At the start of the season, they hold meetings with us to explain to us that if we put our foot like that above the ankle, it’s a red card. He said there was no intensity. I have a swollen ankle. If there is more intensity, it’s broken, but hey.”

Although PSG were in control of the match, Donnarumma was forced into action on multiple occasions and his work ensured that the Ligue 1 giants at least secured a point. The Italian shot stopper had a great match, making six key saves and completing 26 of his 29 passes.
