Italy midfielder Marco Verratti insists match fixing claims about Paris Saint-Germain and Red Star aren’t true – “we played a great match”.
Last week French sports newspaper L’Équipe reported claims that one of the Serbian club’s directors had attempted to fix the match so PSG would win by five goals.
It was alleged that a €5m bet would have been placed with various bookmakers on that result, and eyebrows were raised when the game ended 6-1.
“We didn’t hear anything, I don’t think it’s true,” Verratti told reporters in the mixed zone after Italy’ win last night, as reported by Culture PSG.
“We played football, we played a great match and it’s not the first time we’ve won by five clear goals. Last year we won a lot of games by five goals.
“These are problems which are outside and we’re not interested in them.”
