Marco Verratti admits he was ‘a step away from Juventus’ before opting to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.

The midfielder was the star man in Pescara’s promotion from Serie B in 2011-12, and despite being a childhood Bianconero, moved to PSG in Ligue 1.

“It’s true, I was a step away from going to Juventus, just before I signed for PSG,” Verratti told Goal.

“We were really down to the details. Then I heard of PSG’s interest, and I decided to come here to Paris, I wanted a different experience.

“We were really down to the details. Then I heard of PSG’s interest, and I decided to come here to Paris, I wanted a different experience.

“I wanted to feel part of the PSG project, and I’ve always felt important here.

“Everyone in my family are Juventini, I was surrounded by Juventini. I still watch there games, as I do with Milan and other teams. I love football, and I love watching games on TV.

“However, I don’t have an Italian team who I support, I love to watch the games, but I don’t attach too much importance to who wins or loses.”

Verratti also offered his predictions ahead of the new forthcoming Serie A season, and sees the Old Lady as the team to beat.

“Juventus are favourites, but both Milan teams have strengthened a lot. I hope the battle for the Scudetto will be closer than last season.”
