Italy international Marco Verratti has won the Ligue 1 title for the eighth time in his career, setting a new record in the French league.
Verratti joined the Ligue 1 giants under Carlo Ancelotti in 2012 and has played 374 games in Paris, winning the Ligue 1 title eight times. It’s a new record in the history of the Ligue 1.
The likes of Juninho Pernambucano, Thiago Silva, Grégory Coupet, Sidney Govou Hervé Revelli, Jean-Michel Larqué had won the French title seven times.
Juninho, Coupet and Govou were part of the legendary Lyon side that won seven titles in a row at the start of the century. Thiago Silva was a teammate of Verratti at PSG. The former Milan defender left the Stade des Princes at the end of his contract in 2020, joining Chelsea as a free agent.
Despite being one of Italy’s best midfielders, Verratti has never played in Serie A. The Azzurri star left Pescara in 2012 after earning a promotion to Serie A with I Delfini. His contract in Paris runs out in 2024. The 29-year-old was part of the Italy team that won the Euros last summer.
