There is the prospect of an enthralling encounter at the Bentegodi this Sunday and these Verona vs. Monza predictions suggest that it could be a close affair. The home side will be desperate to halt an eight-game winless streak in front of their own fans.

Verona vs. Monza odds

1 – A draw – 9/4

2 – Under 2.5 goals scored – 3/4

3 – Both teams to score – 4/5

4 – Andrea Colpani to score anytime – 3/1

5 – 1-1 at full-time – 5/1

After a bright start to the season, Verona have fallen back into disappointingly familiar ways in the last few months. There hasn’t been a win since the end of August and the Gialloblu now find themselves just above the relegation zone.

Last weekend’s defeat to Juventus could be regarded as unfortunate – conceding a goal in the last minute. But, to be honest, the home side completely dominated the game and should have won by three of four. Now Marco Baroni will be hoping that his side can do the job at home.

He may also be worrying about the security of his job though. This is the time of the season when many of the struggling sides tend to bring someone new in to change things around. If Verona don’t get a result here, it could signal the end of Baroni’s time at the Bentegodi.

Raffaele Palladino’s position seems to be far more secure. He has done wonders with this Monza side since the club was promoted last summer and the Biancorossi have already carved out a comfortable mod-table berth this year.

It is a sign of how far the club have come that last week’s home draw against Udinese will be seen as points lost – and that they go into this game as favourites. But a win away from home might be too tall an order for Monza.

It is more likely that the two sides play out a draw, with Andrea Colpani grabbing a goal for the away side. He has been a revelation for Monza this season and might well add to his already impressive goal tally this weekend.

Verona vs. Monza line-ups

Verona (3-4-1-2): Montipò; Hien, Dawidowicz, Magnani; Faraoni, Hongla, Folorunsho, Doig; Duda; Ngonge, Djurić

Monza (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Caldirola, Carboni, Marí; Ciurria, Pessina, Gagliardini, Kyriakopoulos; Colpani, Mota; Colombo

Verona team news

Marco Baroni rested many of his preferred starting XI for the defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia in the week and should revert back to a more familiar line-up here. He might bring Cyril Ngonge in though – and will be hoping to start defender Isak Hien as well.

Monza team news

Raffaele Palladino will see little need to change his side around, even after just managing a draw against Udinese last weekend. Armando Izzo will probably miss out again, so Franco Carboni remains in the back three.
