Hellas Verona unveiled their third kit for the 2021-22 season, explaining the various reasons why they opted for green.

The club decided to pay tribute to the great writer Dante Alighieri with all three of their kits this season, marking the 700th anniversary of his death in 1321.

That continues with the third kit, which is entirely in green.

The club’s statement notes the green was chosen for the Drappo Verde, the world’s oldest foot race that has been held over 600 times.

Dante also cites the race in his Inferno, confirming how far back the extraordinary event goes.

When combining yellow and blue, the Hellas Verona colours, you get green.

Finally, green was chosen to mark the fact the Verona first kit has been entirely created from recycled plastic.

Much has been made of the announcement that mainly green kits will be banned in Serie A from the 2022-23 season, so it’s Verona’s last chance to make this statement.
